When the system in question has less than 1 GB of free space, that's a significant issue. When a machine reaches the point that uninstalling a particular patch is not likely needed (because it broke something), or was installed so long ago (so is not practical to uninstall), But the other point is it seems Microsoft is being a bit sloppy in not doing a better job cleaning up after themselves - imho. Find and right click on “SoftwareDistribution” folder and choose rename.
